Then there is the reverse hilarity as your AI teammate takes a dozen rounds from a heavy machine gun and isn't phased a bit. The guns are period real, but can sometimes drive you mad as you sink 15 rounds into a baddie with a sub-machine gun and they stand right back up and kill you.
The graphics are great, even for a game released 4 years ago, and the sounds and explosions will shake your room if you let the volume climb. Once that happens, it takes you out of the moment and reminds you it is just a game. Unfortunately, the game sort of slides downhill into the comically unrealistic "Take down the entire Nazi Army single handily" and the AI starts becoming repetitive. I was NOT prepared for it, which made it one of the best missions of any FPS, ever.
The very first mission (D-Day) is one of the most intense things I have ever played as a video game. Incredible first mission followed by SSDD FPS antics.
